" I think Palahniuk is losing me.I felt like this was more of a way to list celebrities both well-known and obscure from Hollywood's heyday than a great story.

Palahniuk is too full of himself in this novel- too vanity driven for my taste. But after awhile the formula gets tired and boring. " Written in a Hollywood-esque format, it's somewhat funny in a celebrity name-dropping kind of way. Definitely not as good as some of his older books. " This book was alright, but it kind of made me think that Palahniuk is slipping up a little bit recently. Did still enjoy it, but it didn't surprise me. " I would have rated this higher if he ever wrote a twist I didn't see coming. A bit confusing to read, I'd give it a 3.5 stars if I could. The story was OK, but I'd put it toward the bottom if I was ranking his books from my favorite to least favorite. I wasn't interested in this one until I heard him talk about it. " I saw Chuck Palahniuk at the Chicago library this summer. It's a quick read and almost typical, but I would advise reading it during a long flight or when the T.V.
I was able to guess the ending very easily. I might still try reading another book by Chuck Palahniuk though. " The overall story of this book is actually quite good, I just really didn't like the way that it was written and personally found it really difficult to get through. Not being a pop culture connoisseur, this books seemed like a big inside joke that I just didnt get. It seemed like the inside of someones brain who only cared about pop culture. " The ONLY Palahniuk book that I have completely disliked. Regardless, though, while it doesn't match up with his better works, Tell-All far outshines his other more recent novels - Pygmy, Snuff and Haunted all fall in comparison. And yes, maybe I'm swayed by the fact that I went to a release for this book. I will try to read several pages of the next book before I purchase it. He has a strange style, something you have to get used to. It took me till at least page 55 to start enjoying it. " Well, I've never read any of his other books and heard so many great things about them, so I was a little disappointed in this particular book. Overall Performance: Narration Rating: Story Rating:.“Hillary Huber, a relative newbie in the audiobook narrating industry, does a superb job of voicing the Thelma Ritter–esque housekeeper and lending a vintage Hollywood feel to this audio production.” - Library Journal (audio review) Her arch voice recalls the smoky tones of cigarette tapping screen stars, and her raspy narration is chilling.” - Publishers Weekly (audio review)
“Palahniuk channels old Hollywood in this homage to Billy Wilder’s classic film Sunset Boulevard…Hilary Huber’s pitch and pronunciation are inspired by the great actresses of the 1930s and ’40s. “As the cult master of high-concept fictional subversion, the prolific Palahniuk has his typical fun here…with the author having great sport with the wordplay that once filled the columns of Walter Winchell, Hedda Hopper and the like.” - Kirkus Reviews “At his best, Palahniuk punctures our collective psyches with sharp darts of satire, subversion, and surprise…Palahniuk stages some stunning scenes and pens some bawdily hilarious lines…some of the set pieces resemble the scathing satire of a young William S. “Palahniuk still has considerable linguistic firepower and satirical humor.” - Library Journal “Chuck Palahniuk is one of modern American fiction’s most interesting stylists, and he’s at it again.A masterful feat.” - Associated Press “So funny. There are a lot of laughs to be had, notably from some outlandish Broadway productions of the playwright Lillian Hellman, and the excruciating extracts we read of Westward’s juicy and self-aggrandizing memoir, gloriously entitled Love Slave.” - Independent (London)
